Greta Garbo and John Gilbert smolder in their first silent-screen pairing in this film based on Hermann Sudermann's novel The Undying Past. Caught in a flirtation with handsome landowner Leo von Sellenthin (Gilbert), Felicitas (Garbo), a beautiful countess, provokes the ire of her husband. But when Leo kills the count in a duel, he's sent to prison -- and Felicitas agrees to marry his best friend. Will time allow Leo to reclaim his lost love?
