Charlie (Matthew Modine), who is mentally challenged, undergoes a dangerous experimental operation to boost his intelligence. When the procedure works, Charlie becomes a new person, but he later realizes his significant intellectual gains may only be temporary. Based on the classic novel by Daniel Keyes, this heart-wrenching drama also features Kelli Williams, Bonnie Bedelia, Ron Rifkin and Cameron Bowen.
