When his mentally ill former lover Lulu (Melanie Griffith) tracks him down and claims they have a son together, unhappily married screenwriter Ben (Patrick Swayze) climbs in her car for a cross-country road trip to meet his progeny for the first time. Along the way, Lulu tries to reignite their romance, and Ben's psychiatrist wife (Penelope Ann Miller) flies out to intercept them and win back her husband. John Kaye directs this romantic comedy.
