Garapa
(2008)|
Filmmaker José Padilha journeys beyond dry global statistics and startling television images to examine in-depth the sustained, day-to-day effects that chronic malnutrition has on three destitute families living in Brazil. Spending a month with each family, Padilha chronicles how some substitute a concoction of sugar and water called garapa for food, while the specter of hunger drives others to superstition, alcohol, violence and worse.
