Director Cheick Oumar Sissoko retells the biblical story of feuding brothers Esau (Salif Keita) and Jacob (Sotigui Kouyaté), covering chapters 23 to 37 of the book of Genesis in this adaptation set in Mali that incorporates elements of African culture and history. When Jacob cheats Esau out of his birthright, Esau seeks revenge, and the two enter into a lengthy dispute that touches their family and their community.
