Muscleman Steve Reeves stars as Phillipides, a Greek hero who undertakes a risky journey to Sparta to seek help against a huge Persian army poised to invade Athens, in this swords-and-sandals epic directed by Jacques Tourneur. Phillipides returns home to lead the badly outnumbered Athenian soldiers against the bloodthirsty Persians in a climactic clash loosely based on the historical Battle of Marathon.
