When a drought destroys their village, Veeram (Milind Gunaji) and his wife, Rambhi (Shabana Azmi), must relocate to the city to find work. Disgusted by his bigoted new boss, Veeram murders him -- but the police refuse to get involved. As a result, Veeram becomes a political activist, which eventually costs him his life. His wife replaces him, but while Veeram was against violence, Rambhi will go to any length to exert her power.
