A young Janet Jackson portrays a troubled youth in this season of the popular 1970s sitcom. With the death of father James (John Amos) and the departure of matriarch Florida (Ester Rolle), this season puts the focus on the Evans kids -- dy-no-mite J.J. (Jimmie Walker), precocious Michael and strong-willed Thelma -- and neighbor Willona (Ja'Net DuBois). This season, Willona adopts Penny (Jackson), and Thelma moves out.
