Haunted Gold

A cryptic letter summons John Mason (John Wayne) and Janet Carter (Sheila Terry) to a gold mine they own shares in. When they arrive, they're confronted by outlaws bent on plundering the gold. But it's the mysterious Phantom, however, who's calling all the shots. Is he helping Mason and Janet -- or trying to destroy them? Look closely for the prop that would become the Maltese Falcon a few years later.
