A burglar morphs into a stone-cold cop killer and becomes the subject of a tireless manhunt that leads Los Angeles's finest into a harrowing final chase in the city's sewer system. Starring Richard Basehart, Whit Bissell and Scott Brady, He Walked by Night (which also features Jack Webb) inspired the long-running TV show "Dragnet" and features the immortal line, "The names were changed to protect the innocent."
