Based on Anthony Trollope's 19th-century novel, this BBC period drama centers on the troubled marriage of Louis (Oliver Dimsdale) and Emily (Laura Fraser) Trevelyan. Madly in love as newlyweds, miscommunication and mistrust cause their relationship to deteriorate. When the infamous flirt Col. Osborne (Bill Nighy) pays one too many a visit to Emily, emotionally fragile Louis overreacts in a fit of jealousy, driving away his strong-willed wife.
