An angel -- The Escort (Buck Henry) -- pulls quarterback Joe Pendleton (Warren Beatty) out of his body before his time, so the forces that be decide on Joe's reincarnation: a vicious multimillionaire with a wife (Dyan Cannon) and an assistant (Charles Grodin) trying to kill him. Henry and Beatty co-direct this comedy that was nominated for eight Oscars (winning Best Art Direction); Julie Christie co-stars as Betty, Joe's love interest.
