With illegal drag racing on the rise, police officer Ben Merrill (Chuck Connors) decides to enlist the help of dragster Jeff Northrup (John Smith), but their plan to supervise teenage drivers at a local drag strip runs into some serious trouble. Jeff is dealing with the death of his brother, due to a race, and the arrival of Bronc, the new driver in town. Things get even more complicated when Lisa (Lori Nelson), who holds a torch for Jeff, enters the picture.
