Abandoned as a child by his father, Maurice (Michel Bouquet), successful doctor Jean-Luc (Charles Berling) must deal with his resentment when his neglectful dad returns. Unable to show emotion because of his childhood, Jean-Luc struggles with his relationships with his wife (Natacha Regnier) and brother (Stephan Guillon). When Maurice returns, Jean-Luc's childhood memories flood back as he relives his past and tries to make sense of his present.
