Humperdinck: Hansel and Gretel

British mezzo-soprano Alice Coote and German soprano Christine Schäfer sing the title roles of Hansel and Gretel, respectively, in this English-language production of Engelbert Humperdinck's fairy-tale opera filmed live at the Met in New York. Visually speaking, director Richard Jones and set designer John Macfarlane add unconventional staging to the mix, bringing depth -- and even a little darkness -- to Humperdinck's fanciful score.
