Based on a tale by Sherwood Anderson and recounted via flashbacks, this bittersweet drama stars Ron Howard as Andy, a racetrack stableman who believes the way to a certain society girl's heart is through pretense. The young lady (Amy Irving) comes from an affluent family, so Andy -- ashamed of his humble vocation -- leads her to think that he's well-off, too. But his charade may end up destroying his chance at happiness.
