Alan Bates, James Bolam and Brian Cox play the well-educated sons of an earthy coal miner (Bill Owen) and his wife (Constance Chapman). On their parents' 40th wedding anniversary, the sons return to their drab village, where their less-than-perfect lives are revealed. Buried issues come out of the closet and consternation reigns supreme in this American Film Theatre production of David Storey's poignant drama.
