Set in 1953, Delbert Mann's third installment in the award-winning TV series finds attorney Harmon J. Cobb (Walter Matthau) defending an old friend accused of murder. Cobb knows his friend Judge Bell (Harry Morgan) isn't a murderer and sets out to uncover the truth. He learns that the murder victim fathered Bell's illegitimate grandson and suspects his friend is taking the rap to protect the true killer -- but more twists and turns lie ahead.
