Baxter Reed (Joseph Bottoms) is an unfaithful husband looking for an easy way out of his marriage to a wealthy invalid. He and his mistress (Margaux Hemingway) concoct an elaborate plot, which may or may not involve Lynn (Tanya Roberts), his ailing wife's sultry new nurse who's dogged by unproven allegations that she once murdered a patient. Lynn seems all too willing to let herself be drawn into the scheme but soon has a few demands of her own.
