Inspector Morse 32: The Wench Is Dead

  (1998)
In this episode, Inspector Morse (John Thaw) collapses during a conference on Victorian crime and is taken into hospital. To pass the time in bed, he reads a book about the Oxford Canal Murder of 1859 and becomes engrossed in the case. Morse is not the ideal policeman his superiors think: He's prickly and sarcastic, a confirmed bachelor and an intellectual snob who follows his own rules. But he gets results.
