Director Bertrand Tavernier's powerful slice of life stars Philippe Torreton as Daniel Lefebvre, a dedicated teacher in a blue-collar French town who struggles to make a difference in the lives of his young pupils. Although it's an uphill battle as he attempts to surmount a variety of obstacles -- including neglectful parents, bureaucracy and societal ills -- Daniel remains committed to giving his students a quality education.
