In this classic Bollywood romantic farce, poor Rajesh (Rajesh Khanna) and rich-girl Kalpana (Nanda) marry despite the objections of their class-conscious families. To save face, the financially challenged newlyweds tell Kalpana's mother that they're quite well-off -- a lie that's quickly put to the test. A newborn grandson prompts Kalpana's folks to visit, and the young couple must work overtime to carry off the rags-to-riches charade.
