Darley (Michael York), a young British teacher, takes up with the enchanting Justine (Anouk Aimée) in 1938 Egypt but discovers that the mysterious Jewish woman and her wealthy banker husband are involved in a conspiracy to ship armaments to Palestinian Jews. When the plot is exposed, the passionate Justine is forced to call in favors from her powerful friends to protect her family and avoid imprisonment.
