Young lovers Arvind (Rajesh Khanna) and Asha (Vidya Sinha) plan to marry, but when Asha's astrologer father predicts that her fiancée will die on his wedding day, the couple decides to sidestep fate and live together instead. But the unconventional union causes career problems for Arvind, and the two eventually split. Years later, Arvind, who's since married but cannot forget his true love, crosses paths with the son he never knew.
