Kazablan
(1973)|
In Israeli director Menahem Golan's musical adaptation of "Romeo and Juliet," young gang leader Kazablan (Yehoram Gaon) is a Sephardic Jew in love with Rachel (Efrat Lavi), an Ashkenazic Jew. While the two lovers share religion, their contrasting cultures and ethnicities fuel community scandal and a bitter family feud. A talented Israeli cast and uplifting musical numbers such as "Rosa, Rosa" earned the film a 1974 Golden Globe nomination.
