Gifted filmmaker Amos Gitai explores the pathos and chaos that come from surviving war and creating a homeland. Having just survived the Holocaust, Yannush (Andrei Kashkar) and Rossa (Helena Yaralova) are two of a small group that boards the ship Kedma and reaches the shores of Palestine. Seven days later, the state of Israel will be established, launching them into another violent and confusing period in their lives.
