Based on a novel by John Taintor Foote and directed by David Butler, this affecting drama chronicles feuding horse breeders whose quarrel dates back to the Civil War. Caught in the middle are two young lovers from the rival clans: Sally Goodwin (Loretta Young) and Jack Dillon (Richard Greene). Walter Brennan racked up his second Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as Young's irascible uncle, who perpetuates the hostilities.
