Khamsa

Craving connection, 13-year-old Khamsa (Marc Cortes) rejects the foster care system for a new life with his alcoholic father, who abandoned him and his mother years earlier. Director Karim Dridi rounded up a cast of largely nonprofessional actors, often improvising scenes based on their real-life experiences, for this disturbing snapshot of a hardscrabble Roma community on the outskirts of Marseille.
