Italian horror maestro Mario Bava directs this gothic spine-chiller about a series of suspicious deaths that turn a peaceful Italian village upside down -- especially when residents learn that gold coins have been embedded in all the victims' hearts. When the city coroner (Giacomo Rossi-Stuart) arrives to investigate, he discovers that the villagers are convinced the vengeful ghost of a local baron's daughter is responsible for the deaths.
