Soviet-era Russian director Grigori Kozintsev brings to the big screen Shakespeare's tale of love, fear, loyalty and betrayal in one of the most acclaimed adaptations of all time. Shot in Lithuania, the backdrop is perfectly bleak and destitute. Juri Jarvet's vivid portrayal of Lear won him international praise, and the screenplay for this landmark interpretation was co-written by celebrated novelist Boris Pasternak.
