Jean Martens (Pierre Blanchar) takes in an orphaned blind girl named Gertrude (Michele Morgan) and raises her with his family. But as she grows up, he falls in love with her -- as does his son Jacques (Jean Desailly). When Jacques arranges for an operation to restore Gertrude's sight, Jean fears he may lose her affections forever. This French drama nabbed the Grand Prize and Best Actress Award (for Morgan) at the Cannes Film Festival.
