Based on the classic Voltaire tale, Leonard Bernstein's comic operetta follows innocent Candide (Jerry Hadley) and his philosophizing sidekick Dr. Pangloss (Adolph Green) through war, shipwreck, famine, disease and worse. Bernstein personally chose the cast members, including June Anderson as Cunegonde and Christa Ludwig as the Old Lady, and also conducted the London Symphony Orchestra for this winning production from December 1989.
