A young Liverpool boy with a speech impediment named Liam struggles with his family during England's pre-war depression. Things go from sad to worse as Liam's father loses his job and begins blaming the nation's woes on the Jews and the Irish. Liam must learn to cope with his father's fascist beliefs and soon comes face-to-face with the violence that accompanies it. Stephen Frears (The Queen, High Fidelity) directs this coming-of-age drama.
