Rick Carlson (Sam Elliott) has a pretty good life. His days as a professional lifeguard are spent in the great outdoors, and his job, though at times stressful, is much more relaxed than most other vocations. But lately, he's begun to wonder if he's missed the boat somehow, having traded ambition for ease -- and the arrival of an accomplished ex-girlfriend (Amy Archer) leads him to reevaluate his aspirations.
