Charles Boyer stars in this Fritz Lang film as Liliom, a carnie who leaves his job and the woman who loves him unconditionally, owner Madam Muscat, for an unassuming woman named Julie. But he must somehow make a living since Julie's pregnant, so in desperation he turns to robbery. When that fails, he tries suicide, landing in an in-between realm between heaven and earth. The angels give him one more chance at joy, but can he make it a success?
