Directed by Irving Cummings, this nostalgic biopic chronicles the life and times of flamboyant chanteuse Lillian Russell (played by Alice Faye), who quickly becomes a shining star on Broadway after producer Tony Pastor (Leo Carrillo) discovers her. Meanwhile, Lillian catches the eye of several suitors, including newsman Alexander Moore (Henry Fonda), songwriter Edward Solomon (Don Ameche) and railroad mogul Diamond Jim Brady (Edward Arnold).
