Louie Bluie

  (1985)
Before Terry Zwigoff turned his documentarian's lens on cartoonist R. Crumb, the ardent jazz and blues fan tracked down and profiled an artist -- Howard "Louie Bluie" Armstrong -- who'd caught his ear on a 1930s recording for this, his first feature. Armstrong leads one of the last remaining black string bands, but his talents don't end there, a fact the film makes abundantly clear as it follows the fiddler in his always-entertaining ramblings.
