Many R&B and soul artists owe their place in the music industry today to Louis Jordan, a Renaissance musician who played both the saxophone and the clarinet, who worked with the kings of swing, and who made his mark with his band, the Tympany Five. This video collects performances from movies such as Beware (1946), Reet, Petite and Gone (1947) and Look Out Sister (1948), as well as other "soundies."
