A wealthy landlord lives in a mountain mansion high above the villagers who toil for him and face hunger daily. Adding insult to injury, the landlord's sewage flows directly into the village, spreading disease. But the townsfolk finally get a reprieve when the callous property owner faces a series of misfortunes. Ravi Shankar made his debut as a film composer in this tale of social injustice, which won the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
