Milan, Italy's prestigious La Scala opera house provides the backdrop for this first-rate version of composer Gaetano Donizetti's three-act tragedy about star-crossed lovers whose romance blossoms amid a bitter family rivalry. Based on Sir Walter Scott's novel The Bride of Lammermoor and conducted by renowned maestro Stefano Ranzani, the 1992 production stars tenor Vincenzo La Scola, soprano Mariella Devia and baritone Renato Bruson.
