This French cinema classic tells the story of a beautiful young woman born into prostitution who becomes the courtesan and favored mistress of King Louis XV, rising from lowly circumstances to a position of wealth and power in revolutionary France. In true, and scandal-ridden, rags-to-riches-to-rags fashion, Madame du Barry must eventually fight for her life against the vindictive whims of Marie Antoinette.
