Daniel Madigan (Richard Widmark), a feisty detective with a knack for trouble, is chasing down an escaped murderer and the hood who stole Madigan's gun. Keeping tabs on the gritty gumshoe is police commissioner Anthony Russell (Henry Fonda), a respected, by-the-book cop who can't seem to keep his private life together. Veteran director Don Siegel shows off his hard-boiled style in this taut, 1968 crime thriller costarring Inger Stevens.
