Two boyhood pals end up on opposite sides of the law -- Jim Wade (William Powell) becomes a district attorney, while Blackie Gallagher (Clark Gable) moves on to racketeering and murder. They remain friendly, but their professional differences turn personal when Wade marries Gallagher's ex-girlfriend, Eleanor Packer (Myrna Loy). Soon, events force Wade to decide between friendship and ethics in this gripping drama that won a Best Writing Oscar.
