Produced outside the studio system, these two exploitation classics take on themes that explicitly violated the Motion Picture Production Code of the time. Narcotic follows the downward spiral of a medical student as he embraces drugs, brothels and finally the barrel of his own revolver. Maniac offers a tour through the mind of a bona fide lunatic, distorted by fragmented scenes and ugly realities that mimic insanity's warped perspective.
