From the Visitation to the raising of her son, Jesus Christ (Christian Bale), this Kevin Connor-directed television drama is centered on Mary's (Pernilla August) status as a single, unwed mother in a culture where adulteresses were stoned to death for their sins. Mary faces numerous struggles and tests of faith, and along the way pulls strength from Mary Magdalene (Simone Bendix), Joseph of Nazareth (David Threlfall) and more biblical figures.
