Barbara Havers returning to work after recovering from a gunshot wound, Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley (Nathaniel Parker) expresses concern when the Scotland Yard duo must investigate the case of an interior designer who was shot to death. Clues pile up as a mysterious word appears on a wall at the crime scene, the police receive a photograph of the murdered woman, and Havers comes face-to-face with the rural town's dark secrets.
