The prospect of a divorce causes Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley (Nathaniel Parker) to lose his cool, as he and Sgt. Barbara Havers (Sharon Small) examine a body that was found frozen in a meat truck, along with a forged British passport and a document with Arabic writing. The case leads the detectives into the dark underworld of human trafficking and stolen artifacts, and Lynley gets more bad news: He may be called for a disciplinary hearing.
