Blustery Min Divot (Marie Dressler, in an Academy Award-winning performance) is the proprietor of a waterfront inn that's home to fisherman Bill (Wallace Beery) and teenage Nancy (Dorothy Jordan), Min's surrogate daughter. When their lives are turned upside down by a truant officer (DeWitt Jennings) looking for Nancy and the unexpected arrival of the girl's disreputable birth mother (Marjorie Rambeau), Min is forced to take drastic action.
