Miss Navajo
(2006)|
Since 1952, the Miss Navajo Nation contest has given young women the chance to compete not for beauty or style, but for knowledge and understanding of the Navajo way of life. This documentary follows one pageant hopeful, whose journey is interspersed with the event's history and interviews with past winners. Director Billy Luther -- whose mother was named Miss Navajo in 1966 -- provides a fascinating look into how culture endures with the times.
