Moonlighting

  (1982)
Set in December 1981, this acclaimed political allegory follows a Polish construction crew -- led by English-speaking foreman Nowak (Jeremy Irons) -- as they renovate a rich man's London flat without British work permits. When the military imposes martial law back in Poland, Nowak withholds the news from his men in order to complete the job on time. Irons is outstanding as the overbearing boss who becomes a de facto jailer.
